Spokane Spartans Fall Short by Just One Run in a Thrilling Finish
The Spokane Spartans came agonizingly close to victory against the OCS Red Giants, losing by just one wicket in a dramatic finish that went down to the final over.

Batting first, the Spartans put up a competitive 130/5 in 20 overs.
Dhruv led the batting effort with a composed 35 not out off 34 balls, while Rishi contributed a steady 25 off 33 balls. Rishi was forced to retire not out after suffering a groin muscle sprain. Param added 16 off 16 balls, including two fours, while Bilal provided a spectacular late boost with 17 off just 7 balls, smashing at a strike rate of 242.86.
Strong Bowling Performance
Wasil was the standout, taking 2 wickets for 19 runs in 3 overs. Najib, Sankar, Rishi, Param, and Dhruv each contributed a wicket. The Spartans fought hard to keep the Red Giants within reach, taking wickets at crucial moments and setting up a thrilling final over.
A Heartbreaking Final Over
With 10 runs needed from the final over and just one wicket remaining, the Spartans were within touching distance of victory. The Red Giants, however, held their nerve and found the runs they needed in the final over to edge past the Spartans. It was a heartbreaking finish for Spokane, who had fought hard throughout the match and came within one wicket of defending their total.
A one-wicket defeat is a tough one to take, but the performance demonstrated that the Spartans can compete right until the very last ball.

What followed was another dramatic contest that went right down to the final ball.
A Solid Bowling Effort
The Spartans bowled first and put together a disciplined effort against a strong opposition batting lineup. Dhruv finished with an impressive 3 wickets for 16 runs in 4 overs. Param and Wasil Khan also picked up key wickets, while the team continued to fight for breakthroughs throughout the innings. The opposition finished their 20 overs at 120/5, setting the Spartans a target of 121.
Spartans' Chase Goes Down to the Final Ball
The Spartans began their chase positively, with Sankar getting the innings moving with an early six. He finished with 12 off 17 balls, while Khalid contributed 3 runs before being bowled. Raghu provided stability in the middle order with a patient 20 off 31 balls, including two fours. Krishna added a quick 5 off 6, while Dhruv followed his impressive bowling performance with 16 off just 13 balls, including a six. As wickets began to fall, the pressure mounted. But with the game slipping away, Param stepped up spectacularly.
Coming in during a difficult phase, Param produced a sensational 45 not out from just 31 balls, smashing three fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 145.16. His aggressive batting kept the Spartans within touching distance of the target.
Rahat, playing after replacing the injured Rishi, added 5 runs, while Najib remained unbeaten on 2 off just one ball.
With Param leading the charge, the Spartans pushed the game to the final over and ultimately finished at 120/7 after 20 overs—exactly level with the opposition.
The Injuries
Rishi in the first game, then in the next one, both innings came with many moments for the Spartans. First, Wasil was injured while attempting to take a catch, suffering a deep wound to the webbing of his palm. He was taken to urgent care, where he needed five stitches. The injury scares continued during the Spartans' chase. Raghu, making his debut for the team, was struck on the chin by a ball while batting. His chin began bleeding, but after receiving attention, he continued to battle and finished with a valuable 20 runs off 31 balls. Soon after, Dhruv Yadav also hurt his elbow, adding to what had already been a physically demanding game for the Spartans.
A Day of Grit and Spartan Spirit
The scoreboard may have shown a tie, but the performance showed something much bigger. After losing the first game by just one run, the Spartans came back and battled their way to a tie in the second. There were standout performances with both bat and ball, a player stepping in, and a frightening injury that required medical attention—but through it all, the team continued to fight.
Dhruv dazzled with a three-wicket haul. Param anchored the innings with an unbeaten 45. Sankar set the tone with an early six, while Rahat filled in for Rishi. The Spartans showed true grit, pushing through Wasil’s injury and a missing teammate - Jayesh stepped up to help with an urgent care visit. Outstanding teamwork, Spartans!
